How to organise a football tournament
Start a football tournament by deciding the playing format, team count, venue capacity and competition rules. LeagueCraft provides a general tournament workspace with a configurable sport, team management, groups and fixtures.
Choose your playing format and team capacity
Decide whether you are organising five-a-side, seven-a-side or eleven-a-side football. Confirm pitch availability, match length, squad limits and rest time before accepting teams. Record your tournament as Football in LeagueCraft and set the registration window for participants.
Decide between groups and knockout matches
A straight knockout needs fewer matches, while groups give each team more opportunities to play. For example, eight teams split into two groups of four require twelve group matches if every team plays its group opponents once. Add semi-finals and a final when estimating pitch time.
Publish football-specific rules separately
Agree on points for a win and draw, group tie-breakers, substitutions, disciplinary rules and the method for deciding a drawn knockout match. Share these rules with team captains before kickoff. The general tournament tools do not replace football-specific officiating or competition rules.
Keep teams and fixtures organised
Confirm team names and player eligibility before generating your schedule. Use the team and fixture workspace after signing in, then check that the schedule fits the pitch bookings and referee availability. Tournament creation requires an eligible organiser subscription.
A little planning. A great tournament.
